Bill Withers was born the youngest of six children in the small coal-mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia in 1938. After a 9-year stint in the Navy, Withers moved to Los Angeles in 1967 to pursue a music career.
His first album “Just As I Am”, which included the classic “Ain’t No Sunshine” was released by Sussex Records in 1971. Withers second album, “Still Bill” was released in 1972 and contained the song for which he is best known, “Lean On Me”.
