Spring Support Bands – Voxhaul Broadcast and Mona
We’re also proud to announce that Voxhaul Broadcast and Mona will be joining us on our upcoming North American Spring Tour, beginning May 7. (To find out which band will be playing which dates, click to read the rest of the post.)
Voxhaul Broadcast
[Debut album] Timing Is Everything brings a nostalgic sound but effectively sets itself apart from the current indie scene. It alludes to Arcade Fire and echos The Duke Spirit. Underneath are remnants of Minus The Bear, even M83. But nonetheless it has a fresh, organic feel. Voxhaul Broadcast isn’t the typical Silverlake band you’d expect to see on any given night at The Echo. They are skillful musicians, indisputably. There’s definitely something about the synchronicity of all the players that make this such a solid, pleasant record to listen to from start to finish – most likely due to the fact that the band members are all longtime friends. Their instruments layer together in a satisfying, intrinsic fashion. Frontman David Dennis blends it all together with resonating lyrics, while Anthony Aguilar’s sprightly guitar parts help carry an upbeat emotion on all 13 tracks. – LA Music Blog

Mona
“I know we’re a bunch of rednecks from Nashville but c’mon, Brooklyn, give us more than that,” spits singer Nick Brown, in a sassy attempt to get the crowd on his band’s side early on. The real persuading, though, is in the first few songs, all of which whizz by in a blur that comes stunningly close to justifying their status as 2011’s Best New American Import. Both ‘Trouble On The Way’ and ‘Teenager’ come at you like airborne shots of adrenalin, brimming with the kind of choruses that you can cash in at the bank. Mona then decide to unveil their arena ambitions with ‘Lines In The Sand’ – a towering piece of whiskey-stained soul that could stop traffic. For this dazzling quarter of an hour, the band seem like instant stars rather than just hot prospects. – NME
