Not quite feeling it…There was much more emotion in the original video. However, I did like the parts in the beginning and end when Mikel was in bed…Pretty hot.

The first video was soo much better. Somtime Around Midnight tells a story and this video doesn’t go along with the story that the lyrics tell. The first gave a visual version of the lyrics. This video is actully a little wierd. Nothing can ruin this song for me but this video definately doesn’t make the song more enjoyable.

Just figured out the main problem with this video…Too much action. “Sometime Around Midnight” is a quiet song, at least until the big pick-up at “And when your friends say “What is it?”/You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

This new video has Mikel running around a room doing things and the camera panning and zooming everywhere…way too fast for a song that is story-based. This takes away from the experience of watching the video, putting too much focus on the video and not letting the song stand out.

On the original video, all of the fast camera motions and the quick action are saved for the big pick-up that I mentioned earlier. This enhances and complements the song.

Additionally, I personally think that the new video puts way too much focus on Mikel, and Mikel only. The old video took the focus away from The Airborne Toxic Event and put it on the story told in the song, which creates a stronger viewing experience.

If you notice, on the old video, as the actor and actress are acting out the lyrics of the song, the band is in the background. When the band is shown on the original video, every single member is depicted playing with great emotion. It doesn’t just show Mikel running around and singing.

The Airborne Toxic Event is a band that works together to create great music; they are not just a singer and four backing musicians. It’s not all about Mikel. The video puts him in the forefront and the band is sent far into the background.

It’s a good thing that this video will only be on MySpace, and hopefully the band will not consider it to be the new official video for “Sometime Around Midnight”…because it’s definitely not their best work.

I love you guys but the original video was better! The first one told a story. But if this one will give you guys more exposure than f**k it. I’m so happy that a great label picked you up! You guys deserve all the great things that will come to you!

I think the first one gives a visual version of the lyrics and the new one is more about the emotions or what is going on in his mind. Also the second video describe things with beautiful images and I’d say more quality. Love everything about TATE.

having watched the new video i must say i was transfixed. If we are to believe what we read didn’t Mikel shut himself away in his flat to write this song? Probably with ‘ghosts’ around him! But please, please, don’t lose the original, it had it’s own wonderful way of telling the story too. Getting very excited now as I am off to the Sheffield gig on Wednesday. Just can’t wait to see you guys live. Hope the voice is holding out, Mikel.

I like the original video better. Much more intense– more in line with the angst and longing in the lyrics. This one feels a little plastic and forced… To thine own self be true, TATE.

i heard the very end of this song on the radio, and since then, about 2 weeks ago, have been thinking about it and the band. i just got back from amsterdam, where i saw the poster for london calling and there they were at the top of the list….today i downloaded the song and watched the video here, and have now heard the song a grand total of 2 times. it’s a pretty great song.. didn’t see the old video, but think this one’s pretty damn good. can’t wait to see you guys live sometime; wish i could’ve stayed in amsterdam to check it out!

while this video is pretty cool, it does not come anywhere close to the original. The emotion conveyed in the original along with the bar scene was superb. This one has cool effects, but it loses the message. I know, not what you wanted to hear, but either way, you guys rock!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!

    wooooo best band ever

I can not imagine another video that would capture the emotion of this song better. The times that I have laid awake at night thinking of what has happend… It plays over and over in my head. Much like the song, if you can not control it then it builds… and builds till you really feel like you are spent. I love this song and the entire albumn… Thank you so much.

Hey cuz Noah! Like the original video to Sometime better than the new. 🙁 There is beauty to the new one, and Mikel was great, I could feel his angst. But the new video didn’t belong with the song, it was kind of impersonal and could go with so many songs. I think the first one, in the bar, did a better job of taking me to where that song wanted me to go. Still love ya lots and looking forward to a family reunion Wed. -T

It has been a while that I can buy a CD and listen to a compilation of songs over and over again and not grow bored. You have an unbelievably fresh sound and it is a pleasure to listen to you. PS- Sometime Around Midnight is one hell of a dark, sexy tune. It is engrained in my memory along with many other music classics and has become a part of the soundtrack of my life, so thank you.

Too many fucking critics…cant you people just appreciate the music for what its worth and stop scrutinizing every detail about a music video..The Airborne are fucking awesome, lets just leave it at that…I met two of the guys at Summer Round up and they were just awesome human beings…All I said was “Thank you very much for sharing your talent with the rest of the world!” and I moved on with my life..No bullshit! Shake their hand, thank you and move on…Quit criticizing!

not to sound like a cheese ball or anything but this totally captured the creative process. and the frustration one goes through from trying to take an emotion or story and translate it into a creative medieum for all the understand.

i really like this darn video 🙂

the song is beautiful. first i saw the acoustic version and loved it and then the original. altho i like this new one, the original was purely heart-rending. the new one is artistically pleasing and reminiscent of early videos seen on mtv and vh1. but i still think your original is the best. it conveys the message and puts the listener into the song….

    great music people!!

Like this video, though liked the original a bit better, more real to the feeling I get from the song. Very nice to see the respect you are getting, very deserved and hope it continues. Was awed at the triplerock show in Minneapolis. Simply amazing show, thank you for giving it to us. CD seems to be stuck in my car player, hmm. Can’t get enough of it. Watching for another show here. See you at Wisconsin, got my tix tonight.

Gotta say it one more time, THANK YOU FOR DOING WHAT YOU DO.
