Good morning everyone,
I hope everyone is staying safe and finding your through this very difficult moment. We’ve been doing quite a bit of juggling around here, though in general we are luckier than most and just want to do whatever we can to help.
There have been a lot of questions around the Hollywood Park book tour, people wondering how we are going to stay connected during this time of pandemic, gloom and doom, considering all the stay at home orders nationwide. I just want to say: We have heard you. We are not canceling the book tour. We are, instead, moving it online. Stay with me.
So what does that mean?
Everyone who bought a ticket to the book tour will get a copy of Hollywood Park signed by me. Your local independent bookstore will still get the sale! This is more important now than ever, as many are struggling to stay afloat. I thank you for showing them support right now.
All the events, by city, are going to happen at the SAME TIME they were scheduled to happen, except they will happen online, with participation limited to those who bought tickets. I will be doing an exclusive event — a reading, a talk, private performance of music from the new record (plus some older songs I think capture the ideas in the book), plus an intimate question and answer session — exclusively for the ticket holders in each city. In other words, there will be an online event for Los Angeles, one for San Francisco, etc. … And the participants will be limited to those who bought tickets.
Anyone can now join any event and support great independent bookstores. Tickets are now on sale HERE.
It’s not perfect, but in this moment, I think it’s the best way to stay connected.
So, that’s the deal. On the night of the book event, I highly recommend you pour yourself a glass of wine (or soda, no judgment), grab a book, and log in using your personal link to the book event (which will be emailed to you prior to the event). I’ll be there and look forward to chatting with you.
OK, that’s it. Be good, everybody.
Mikel
In a dramatic turn of events, Hollywood Park was the very last book to be printed at the plant before production was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. There are still some issues though so we are moving the release dates back to Friday, May 22 for Hollywood Park, the Album and Tuesday, May 26 for Hollywood Park the Book. All pre-orders will be fulfilled and there is even a good chance your order will come early.
The beloved independent north east record/book store chain Bull Moose is offering an exclusive Album/Book bundle. Only 500 copies of this limited edition White Wedding and Silver Lady Haze 180 gram vinyl are available.
Check out Indie Bound for other independent stores near you.
