Lets talk about music, Mikel Live on Facebook Friday

March 18, 2020

So we’re all locked inside so let’s shoot the shit about music. I’m gonna be on Facebook a lot in the next few days for this. Here’s what I want to do:

I made a Spotify playlist for all the influences for Hollywood Park. It’s got “Thunder Road” by Springsteen and “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd, plus a bunch of other songs that have moved me/us through the years and were in the world of this record we just finished.

So I thought I’d ask: What do YOU think the influences are for “Come on Out?” I have strong opinions but I’m very curious what you think they are. How does it make you feel? What other songs/artists make you feel that way? Is this post-punk? Classic rock? Modern indie rock? Did I bite Lou Reed? Does everyone bite Lou Reed? What’s up with that guitar tone?

I normally wouldn’t do this sort of thing because it’s more fun to be a detached artist or whatever but we’re all home and the fucking world is sick so let’s just talk about music.

Here’s what I want you to do:

  1. Make a playlist on Spotify of 5-15 songs that YOU think influenced “Come on Out.”
  2. Make sure “Come on Out” is also on that playlist.
  3. Share the playlist link here as a comment on the Facebook post. I will be commenting with you. Also, we as a band will be sharing our favorite playlists of yours with our approximately 500,000 followers on all our socials.
  4. Share your playlist with people around you. (We’re locked inside, let’s listen to music).
  5. I’m going to a Facebook Live broadcast on Friday morning at 10am PT. I’ll be answering questions and talking about your playlists (maybe playing a little more new music from record, maybe I’ll even play a song or two) and getting into all this. Come join me because it’s better than being scared alone.
  6. For the person who makes the playlist we like MOST, we will set up a private FaceTime/Instagram Live with the band at our next rehearsal. You can meet us (virtually, let’s stay safe) and ask us whatever you want. Plus we’ll give you a few tickets to ANY upcoming show on our North American tour.
