“COME ON OUT” SINGLE AND LYRIC VIDEO OUT

Well here we are. This is the first new music we’ve put out in five years. We are so proud for you to hear “Come On Out,” our first single from our new album Hollywood Park. The song is out today on streaming services and our album is now available for pre-order. Like every song from the album, “Come On Out” is based on scenes from my book, also entitled Hollywood Park.

“Come on Out” is about the night I ran away from home when I was 11 years old. It’s also about child abuse and anger and the oddly dangerous world of children.

It’s a funny thing about child abuse that when you’re still a kid you often don’t even know it happened to you because of all the reinforcing narratives around you: that your feelings don’t matter, that you’re overreacting, that somehow you are in the wrong for being upset. That is all part of the abuse. Writing the book (and this song) for me is about giving a voice to that voiceless child. I think people forget that childhood can be like that. That even though children have trouble expressing complex feelings (particularly negative ones), they still feel them, and carry those feelings with them throughout their lives.

NEW TOUR DATES ADDED

Along with adding a show in Boulder, CO to our June tour, we are announcing an entire new fall tour starting at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday, October 9. The tour also includes a show in New York City at the Beacon Theatre on Thursday, October 22.
